Selection Sunday Eve Bracket

A couple of significant changes at the bottom of the at-large pool and a little bit of shuffling among the 3 and 4 lines tonight, but my penultimate bracket of the year looks similar to last night's. The top 8 seeds are unchanged. Memphis and Georgetown both won their conference tournaments today, so their spots on the 2 line are secure. Oregon's demolition of USC in the Pac-10 final propels them to the 3 line. The Ducks flip with Southern Illinois, who falls down to the 4 line. Pitt stays a 3 despite being blown out by the Hoyas tonight. If Texas wins the Big 12 tournament tomorrow, those two teams will probably switch. UNLV remains on the 4 line after its win over BYU for the Mountain West crown tonight.

At the bottom of the at-large pool, I re-evaluated everyone, starting by using my experimental "Scheduling Efficiency Formula," and Air Force and West Virginia ended up the big losers. Actually, the formula doesn't really hurt the Falcons all that much, but their end of season performance did. West Virginia rated near the bottom of the list when I applied the formula to the bubble teams' records, so they fell out. Arkansas and Texas Tech replace them in tonight's bracket. The Razorbacks' non-conference schedule and strong finish puts them back in. My formula doesn't like the Red Raiders much, but it does like them far better than Kansas State. Texas Tech's wins over Texas A&M (twice), Arkansas, and Kansas get them in.

Incidentally, there are a couple of kinks I'd like to correct for in the formula, so that's why it's "experimental."
